About the Jazz Winter Intensive
The Memphis Jazz Workshop’s Winter Intensive 2024 offers an exclusive, immersive experience designed for advanced high school jazz musicians. This five-day program will give students the opportunity to hone their skills, collaborate with other talented musicians, and work directly with top-tier jazz educators and professional musicians.
Whether you’re looking to sharpen your improvisational techniques, develop a stronger understanding of jazz theory, or build up your performance portfolio, the Winter Intensive offers the tools and inspiration to elevate your musicianship.
Program Highlights
- Masterclasses & Workshops: Daily sessions led by professional jazz musicians, focusing on advanced jazz theory, ensemble performance, improvisation, and more.
- Small Ensemble Coaching: Work in groups to develop tight-knit musical chemistry and ensemble dynamics.
- Guest Artist Performances: Experience live performances from nationally acclaimed jazz musicians.
- Live Jam Sessions/Performances: Experience playing in a combo with your peers in front of a live audience.
- Ace your All West Audition: Work to perfect on your audition excerpts with our expert instructors.

Opening Welcome & Introductions/Orientation for Students begins 6:00pm- Check into the Double Tree Hotel Downtown Memphis
- Saturday – Monday, November 23rd – 25th
Masterclasses, Small Ensemble Rehearsals, One-on-One Coaching, Guest Artist Sessions, and Live Jam Sessions

Eligibility
The Winter Intensive is open to advanced high school jazz students. Applicants should have a strong background in jazz performance and be prepared for an intensive learning experience.

- Tuition Fee: $300 which covers room and board and meals throughout the program
